Special Sauce

Hot diggety!

As of a few minutes ago, I sewed the final small flower into the border of the bohemoth. (AKA "Dear Elvis, I've only been working on this for two months? Quilt".)

Tomorrow I'll go to the fabric outlet and pick a couple more fabrics up- to fill in the gaps in the border area of what's already there, a plain border or binding, and a backing fabric. If all goes well, I should have the top itself finished by the weekend (and a damned fine birthday present that will be, actually.) I'll machine sew the sashing, and the back, and then? The quilting. Which I hope will not take another 2 months.

I have to say, it looks really freakin' neat. I'm really proud of what I've accomplished so far. 591 little hexagons sewn together, and counting. If I can get it finished in time, maybe I'll try to enter it at the local fair. If plastic canvas birdhouses can get a ribbon, maybe I can too? heh. (Then again, I am smack dab in the middle of Amish/Mennonite quilt central. So...)

Anyway. Hooray!

Do we get a picture? I'll send you a ribbon if you like: Best Quilt By A Slightly Snarky Non-Mennonite Blogger With A Cat Named Fat Elvis And An Upcoming Birthday, In The "Living Next Door To A Crazed Drug Dealer" Subcategory.

Any other categories you'd like to enter? I'm pretty sure you'd win.

On a non-quilting note, what are you doing for your b'day? Drunk naked karaoke? Yeah, that's what I figured. Fun, isn't it? :-)

Honestly, probably not much. G. Monkey's leaving for LA right afterwards, so I don't want to drag her out (because I know her. She won't be packed till an hour before she leaves for the airport.) I'm figuring I'll bake a cake, maybe see who's playing down at the club, and save up my excitement for 2007 when I turn 30. heh.

Oh hell! Hexbelt's playing the day after, but next week? Wednesday night, Brave Combo, baybee. I may have to slink down for that, G. Monkey or no, for I do enjoy me some Brave Combo.

There's also a Johnny Cash tribute next Friday which will either be really, really cool, or really, really ridiculous. May have to check that out too, or instead, depending on tix.
